The Story

We bought 3215 Pleasant Valley primarily in order to get our kids into Armstrong Elementary in Sachse so that they would be able to go to Hudson Middle School, then Sachse High.  Moving only a few miles from our first home in Garland, we wanted our children influenced by teachers and principals we knew and who had outstanding reputations in the local communities.  Secondary to the proximity to the schools was the comfort, style and expansive space in and around the house in Sachse.  Then there were the amenities:  the pool, Sport Court, huge storage building for our camping and hobbies, and all of the trees.  From the day we moved in, our plan was to allow the house to become our home for a few years, raise our kids there through high school, then sell and size down after graduation.  But before we were completely moved in friends nicknamed the place “the Ponderosa” and the metal building“the Barn.”  Before we realized it had happened, the big spacious house and grounds had suddenly become “home.” 

 

Since 2006, the Ponderosa has been home to hundreds of family and friends as well.  The Ponderosa has hosted hundreds of gatherings; dinners, cookouts, parties, bon-fires, team training and banquets, barn dances, discipleship weekends, reunions and campouts.  We were always able and willing to host groups of any size because we had both indoor and outdoor space, with plenty of private parking.  And as our family matured, every event over the years evolved bigger and better than the one previous. 

 

The home has the luxury of space, inside and out.  Every room is bigger than it appears and over the years we made excellent use of it.  We put extra bunkbeds in the kids rooms so there were always beds for friends and sleepovers.  The living room had space for two living room suits instead of one, which meant double the seating for get-togethers.  The game room had room for seating or dancing without interfering with folks shooting pool or gathered around the bar eating and visiting.  The backyard and grounds step up the luxury of space to a whole different level.  Diving contests, shoot-outs, bon-fires and food were always beckoning a gathering of friends and family to come hang out.  In 2006 we never imagined that our elementary school children would still be playing the same games like capture-the-flag, and enjoying life with the same friends in the same home—all the way through college.  The Ponderosa will always be “home.”  In the heart of the thriving and bustling 190 corridor, the home is just far enough removed from neighborhoods to provide seclusion for quiet times out under the trees, naps floating in the pool, quality snuggle time by a fire inside or out, and space to take refuge and find respite.

Finally executing our 11-year-plan to sell and size down, we are excited to pass our beloved Ponderosa to the next family.  We’ve been the best stewards of this property as possible, and hope that the next family will utilize it in the manner for which it was designed, enjoying it for the uniqueness it offers.

  …The sounds and scents of the house and surrounding trees and foliage are not easily forgotten and will be tucked into our hearts fondly forever.  We hope the next young family will enjoy what we did not take for granted all of those years, allowing the Ponderosa to be the home and safe place for their family and friends as it has been for ours.
